m-80
m-80 was ignited in order to (at least temporarily) break out of the ever-present atmosphere of malaise. This small outlet for creative expression was established as an anthology of artist’s work. Without many rules or restrictions, it is a brief escape from life in cubes. m-80 will evolve with each issue: format, shape, size and texture may vary.
A variety of different disciplines are exposed in each edition from painting, design, fiction, poetry, drawing, photography, music/sound, fashion, as well as special projects and assorted ephemera.
Issue #1 was released on 8/01/02 and greeted by a very positive response. All 250 copies sold out fast.
Besides exposure, m-80 has also acted as a conduit for the creative community. Rather than remaining isolated and apart, people and mediums are beginning to commingle and procreate.
m-80’s origin statement:
It is Akron’s new quasi-magazine for the arts. An anthology of multiple artist’s work. Appearing nearly quarterly, its numerous spectacularly designed beautiful pages may contain news, reviews, rants, interviews, articles which explore the harmonious relationship of contemporary ecological art with environmental science, sustainable technologies and ecologically sensitive villages or just a lot of pictures. The magazine is dedicated to reflecting, dissecting and deriding culture as it unfolds throughout Akron while also reporting on important trans-global developments further afield.
The editor & designer is John Puglia.
m-8o will be a vital resource for artists, academics, students, second assistant fry chefs, researchers, hovercraft pilots plus those working in related fields and all who are interested in any minute aspect of culture.
